Laureate head of Apollo right, hair falling in three long curls over shoulder / MYPINAIΩN, Apollo standing right, phiale in right hand, filleted branch in left; omphalus and amphora at feet to right, KEA monogram behind, all in laurel border. Sacks, ANS Museum Notes 30, issue 18. SNG Copenhagen 221. Gryneion was an ancient city located in Aeolis, not far from Myrina. It was famous for its temple dedicated to Apollo Gryneios, the aspect of the God dedicated to the protection and care of temples and sanctuaries. This temple was an important religious center, and the worship of Apollo was a significant aspect of the region's religious life, as noted by Strabo and Pausanias.
