Eufaula, AL- Eastern Bank of Alabama $10 18__ G10b Rosene 68-8 Gunther-Derby (2020) AO-182-$10b Remainder PCGS Gem New 66PPQ.
The bank was organized in 1857 and remained in business until closing its doors sometime around 1866-67. The bank was left holding the bag on both forced and voluntary holdings of state and Confederate securities that became worthless after the war. The $10 design features a busy riverfront scene with cotton bales being unloaded with the steamboat Eufaula in the background. This is flanked by vignettes of a young woman holding a dove at right and a slave with a basket of cotton bolls at left. This vignette was cut down from a larger vignette that was used on the T29 Confederate $10 Treasury Note executed by Blanton Duncan in 1862. This variety has an overall red tint and a red and white TEN protector.
